RICHARD ELY ~ The Geology Dude

Richard will review the current state of knowledge of the
seismic geology of the Pacific states.  Will the ‘Big One’ hit sooner or
later? Strike slip faults of the San Andreas system pervade the California
Coast Ranges south of Cape Mendocino, whereas the Cascadia subduction zone
extends north from there to Vancouver Island.  California has the better
of this deal: smaller quakes on the average (the Cascadia subduction zone is
capable of magnitude 9.0 earthquakes), and fewer volcanoes, which can be very,
very messy neighbors.  Inland from the coastal regions, normal
(extensional) faulting predominates in the Great Basin, and small scale thrust
faulting is found in the Columbia Plateau basalt field. Please feel free to

This BOOK RELEASE PARTY AND READING  will celebrate the publication of THIS WITH MY LAST BREATH - the final writings of the renowned Minnesota poet/writer MERIDEL LESUEUR published on the occasion of her 112th birthday.

In a major literary event, This With My Last Breath presents the final handwritten pages found on Meridel LeSueur when she died.
The words of her final communication are free-flowing poetry written in its initial journal form—rough, raw, and truly remarkable.
Meridel LeSueur’s poetry, short stories, and novels are a beloved part of the cultural and political fabric of our times.  She was one of the great women literary and communal voices of the 20^th Century which her long life spanned, from February 22, 1900 to November 14, 1996. Her writings were grounded in the grassroots, salt-of-the-earth stories and experiences of women, working people, the poor, the disenfranchised and the dispossessed. Her immense love, respect and belief in the power of the people and the power of the word was ever present in her work. LeSueur was a chronicler, a witness, a defender of people’s lives and struggles, touching on the deepest truths.
